  • MN Band Directors Association Young Band Festival

Five Braham students attended the Minnesota Band Directors Association (MBDA) Young Band Festival at Proctor High School on Saturday, May 5. Approximately 100 students from thirteen schools attended. Most students had never met each other and never worked with their guest conductor, Mr. Randy Lee of Hermantown. Through teamwork and several hours of practice, they were able to present a very fine concert of challenging music. The concert featured four pieces for full band and two different percussion ensembles.

The MBDA hosts different events in each of its six regions of the state. Proctor offered to be the host site and the area band directors on the board for MBDA-North East organized the event. These special events exist to further the education of thriving students, to offer new experiences to students who need extra incentive, to reward students for their hard work and to give students from small schools the opportunity to play in a larger, more complete band.

These students represented some of the best musicians in their young bands in North and East Minnesota. It was a great experience which students will remember; collaboration, education and the fun. The lessons they will take back to their own school bands are priceless. Thank you MBDA!

    Braham students:  Shelby M., Emma D., Stephanie B., Emma C., Amelia F.
